Being a part of the Making Waves team will strengthen your ties with your community and introduce you to people also passionate about sailing.
Volunteering with Making Waves allows you to work with our most vulnerable community members while building and strengthening relationships with your peer volunteers.

Requirements
Our programs run throughout the week, so you would need to be available on weekdays. If you have time available to volunteer, the first step in joining us is to become a member. There is a $55 annual fee to become a member and volunteer that covers your Making Waves uniform, insurance, training, and administrative costs.

Options
On-water
You support participants and teachers with sailing a high-performance race vessel through our various on-water programs. You will have opportunities to grow your skills through regular training and learn onboard from peers.
Off-water
We have several opportunities for those that prefer stable ground. These include a trade skill workshop program, maintenance positions, and office-based roles to assist with administrative duties, marketing, events, and fundraising.
Member
Supporting Making Waves as a member is a great way to participate in a community group from afar. We will keep you updated with news, events, and regattas.
Volunteer Opportunities
We need your passion, enthusiasm and skills to help us achieve these outcomes.We use sailing as a tool to build confidence, self-esteem and new relationships. We provide free sailing and training programs for people with a disability, disadvantaged children and adults, and their carers.
Next Steps to Become a Volunteer
After completing the online membership form, our new member coordinator will contact you to discuss your next steps. There is a $55 annual membership fee for all members which covers your uniform, insurance, training, and administrative cost.
- A Working with Children Check, which is compulsory for all members and volunteers.
- Complete the online induction that introduces Making Waves and our safety procedures.
- An orientation session at your nearest port, introducing you to the Making Waves Foundation and volunteer opportunities available.
- If you are an on-water volunteer, you will be provided with a crew uniform and crew accreditation booklet at the orientation session. The uniform is a UV protective, quick-drying shirt.
You will then become a member and volunteer of the Making Waves Foundation family. We look forward to meeting you either on or off the water!
