Winds of Joy
About
This Program operates on weekdays from Rushcutters Bay in Sydney, Newcastle, and Docklands in Melbourne. Winds of Joy offers groups of children and young people with disabilities the empowering opportunity to try sailing on a 50 ft yacht. The yachts have been modified for disability access and can accommodate wheelchairs. Sessions are morning and afternoon for two hours on the water.
The program is supported by our skilled volunteers, many of whom also have a disability so act as role models and mentors for the participants.
Our participants
- Feel the wind on their face and the power of nature.
- Steer the boat and learn some basic sailing skills.
- Meet and engage with mentors and role models.
- See iconic sights and animal life – Harbour bridge, Opera House, possibly seals, penguins and birds
- Experience new and practical solutions to challenges.
The program also operates during the year as outreach in Newcastle and Coffs Harbour Hobart, Rosslyn Bay,
Mackay and Southport.
