The Wright of Passage program aims to provide young people, particularly those experiencing barriers in school, to gain strong educational outcomes, with hands-on experience in boat building, sailing, and personal development. Participants gain practical skills related to the maritime industry and develop work-ready knowledge and attitudes that serve them well in any employment sector.
‘Red Kite’, the first Rainbow dinghy built by participants in our Sydney program, was successfully launched last week. The boys and the team were deservedly proud because she looks awesome and handled the moderate winds really well. How cool does it look! Three new participants were then welcomed into the Sydney program on Thursday as work commenced on Rainbow number 2. It was great to watch the “old hands” taking the lead to bring the greenhorns up to speed.
In another key step for the program’s expansion, we successfully commenced in Geelong this term in partnership with Western Beach Boat Club. We are currently looking for a suitable site to launch the program in the Newcastle next year.
