MEDIA RELEASE
14th August 2024
Southport QLD wrap-up: First Port of the Making Waves Foundation’s Northern Campaign 2024!
We’re thrilled to share the incredible experiences from the first stop of our Northern Campaign in Southport! Over the past week, we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming several amazing groups on board:
🎓 Southport Special School
🎓 Beenleigh State High School
🎓 MacGregor State High School
🎓 REDinc
🏥 Queensland Health – Acquired Brain Injury Unit

The feedback has been nothing short of inspiring!
Ebony from MacGregor State High shared, “Sailing is so… freeing!” Rhonda, a teacher, noted, “It’s amazing for the students to get a hands-on understanding of sailing—feeling the wheel, working the ropes, and riding the waves.”
Ben from REDinc loved steering the yacht, even though it required intense focus. “It was pretty hard, but so worth it!” he said. Sonia, a career advisor, mentioned, “The participants got to try something completely new, pushing them out of their comfort zones.”
Neil, a client from Queensland Health, couldn’t believe his luck: “The best part was driving the boat. I had never been on a boat like Kayle before.” Carly, his caregiver, added, “This was a unique opportunity for them to do something they wouldn’t normally have the chance to experience.”
To keep the momentum going, we’re running a raffle to help fund our campaign as we continue northward. Every ticket sold helps us reach more communities and offer life-changing sailing experiences.
