Hobart Crew Complete First Race

The Making Waves Foundation proudly announces its official participation in our 22nd Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, featuring a crew composed of 50% individuals living with disability. This momentous achievement supports the Making Waves Foundation’s commitment to inclusivity and empowering our community through sailing.

The Making Waves crew just competed in the Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race. Skipper John Whitfeld shared these thoughts:
Any time we spend on the boat both racing and training is invaluable. The race provided a full range of conditions from drifting around the Harbour at the start, down to a Number 4 and two reefs in the main for a broad reach in a chilly southwest breeze around 30 knots at the height of it (although we were without wind instruments so that number might be slightly embellished 😄). The crew worked together cohesively, dealing with whatever was needed, no matter who was on watch. This was probably the most pleasing aspect of the entire race for myself, seeing the crew building together from our initial trial & training days.
