The Making Waves Foundation, formerly Sailors with Disabilities, started in February 1994 with the 50th Sydney to Hobart Race. It was the first time a fully disabled crew had sailed in an ocean race.
It was supposed to be the last, but from this event, a not-for-profit community organisation was formed.
In late 2021, Making Waves Foundation launched full-time programs in Newcastle to service the community in the Newcastle and Hunter regions.
Around 2,500 people participate in our programs annually. We operate year-round from the ports of Sydney, Melbourne and Newcastle and will launch in Geelong in late 2022/early 2023.
